On Sunday morning, the body of an eight-year-old Ludhiana boy who had been missing since the evening of August 18 was found in the Doraha canal. Sehajpreet, the victim, lived in the city’s Abdulapura Basti neighbourhood.

There are claims that the youngster was shoved into the canal by his uncle Taya Swaran Singh. The suspect, who had been in police custody since Saturday, admitted to killing the youngster this morning after being questioned for many hours.

Joint CP City Narinder Bhargav claimed that on August 18 night, Swaran Singh had taken Sehajpreet away under mysterious circumstances without alerting the family. He pushed the boy into Doraha Canal that same evening.

The Boy’s Family Reported Him Missing To The Police After Discovering His Disappearance.

The culprit was located close to Jalandhar Bypass when the police searched adjacent areas’ CCTV footage. Then, the family members expressed their concern about Swaran Singh’s involvement in the kidnapping. After being captured and interrogated, Swaran Singh admitted to having committed the crime.

The youngster was shoved into the canal at a specific location, according to Swaran Singh, who was transported there by police, according to Raju, a relative of the dead. The body was afterward fished out by the divers.

Against the accused, a murder case has been filed. According to the police, the crime was motivated by a property dispute. Police stated that they are also looking into the possible involvement of the accused’s other relatives.

Police And Murder’s Revelation

According to Harish Behal, assistant commissioner of police for Civil Lines, “On August 19, a police report was filed at the Model Town police station under Section 346 of the IPC (wrongful imprisonment in secret) against an anonymous person. The family called Swaran to inquire about the youngster when Sehajpreet failed to return home. Swaran said that the youngster was absent when he went to the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

The police subsequently discovered more CCTV footage in which Swaran was seen driving Sehajpreet from the Jalandhar Bypass to the gurdwara Katana Sahib. On the evening of August 18, he drove the boy to Gurudwara Sahib in Ajnod from there. Swarn was seen in the CCTVs returning home alone on the morning of August 19.

When questioned by authorities, the suspect said Sehajpreet slipped into the canal unintentionally. Later on, he admitted that he had pushed the man into the canal in order to murder him.

Swarn’s revelations have left the family in shock as he was close to Sehajpreet.
