DD Sports has come under hot contention following pleas from private DTH and cable TV operators to remove the channel from their platforms during major sports events.
Dish TV and d2h To DD Sports 1.0
Recently, all the major private DTH and Cable TV operators made complaints against the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. The subject of the complaint was regarding the free broadcast of major sporting events on DD Sports for all viewers.
The free broadcast threatens private DTH and Cable TV operators since less viewers will be inclined to subscribe to other sports channels. Following huge arguments over the issue, all the major operators went to the Supreme Court to settle the issue.
The Supreme Court after much speculation gave the verdict that all DTH operators will feature the DD Sports 1.0 channel during any sports events related to the Indian Cricket team. They are however, allowed to change to feed to another 2.0 feed during other sporting events. Prasar Bharti the state-owned public broadcasting company on the other hand will have to broadcast DD Sports 1.0 channel.
DD Free Dish Set top box
After the settlement, Prasar Bharti have decided to give DD Sports 1.0 channel to Dish TV and d2h for major sports events or India tour of New Zealand. As such, viewers can watch the DD Sports 1.0 on channel number 640 for both Dish TV and d2h.
However, following the Supreme Court order, DTH platforms and private cable TV operators have removed DD Sports 1.0. and directed it to DD Sports 2.0. Interested customers now need to buy a DD Free Dish Set top box to avail the channel.
Some customers have however found a hack to bring back the channel. The trick involves changing some frequency settings of the set top box.
