The MLS team announced in a statement on Friday that goalkeeper Hamid, who has been sidelined since late May, “underwent hand surgery on June 30 to repair the little finger radial collateral ligament at the metacarpophalangeal joint with internal brace augmentation.”

The 31-year-old last appeared for DC United on May 28 in a 4-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls. He has earned eight caps for the US men’s national team.

Hamid, according to the team, had been playing with the agony since sustaining the injury in the season’s early going.

Hamid is likely to miss the bulk of the 2022 regular season.

According to the timeframe provided by United, he might miss the most of the remaining 2022 regular season, which ends on October 9. The MLS Cup final is set for November 5 after the playoffs start on October 15th.

The Philadelphia Union destroyed United 7-0 on Friday night, dropping United to 13th in the 14-team MLS Eastern Conference, eight points behind the New England Revolution for the last playoff spot.

United, who are the second-most successful franchise in MLS with four league championships, last won the trophy in 2004, and they are currently fighting to avoid going three seasons in a row without entering the playoffs.

Bill Hamid, who was born on November 25, 1990, is an American goalkeeper who competes in Major League Soccer for D.C. United.

Hamid was born in Annandale, Virginia. He became the first member of the D.C. United Academy to sign with the main squad in September 2009.
