History Of The Davis Cup

Four people from Harvard University wished to challenge Great Britain in a tennis contest in 1900. The 1904 Davis Cup included Belgium and France. Australasia (Australia and New Zealand) entered in 1907. After 1923, Groups were parted into two zones; the ‘America Zone’ and ‘Europe Zone’, with the victors playing each other to figure out who might confront the reigning champs.

The Davis Cup was called the International Lawn Tennis Challenge before, but in 1945, the tournament was renamed the Davis Cup in memory of Dwight Davis, who started the tournament. The Davis Cup went through an additional redesign in 1981 when a 16 group World Group was presented. The rest of the countries were parted into regional groups.

Currently, 26 countries have participated in the Davis Cup 2020-21. From just 2 countries in 1900 to 26 countries in 2020, the Davis Cup has come a long way. The Tennis Cup survived wars, unrests, controversies, and much more but still continues to entertain global tennis fans.
