Germany vs Belgium: 2-1
Germany’s 2-1 victory against Belgium on Friday in Hamburg has guaranteed them a place in the Davis Cup knockout round.
Germany can no longer slip out of the top two spots in Group C thanks to the win. In a game on Sunday, they will now compete with Australia for first place in the standings.
Jan-Lennard Struff gave Germany the lead by defeating Zizou Bergs 6-4, 7-6 (11-9), but David Goffin defeated Oscar Otte 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 to tie the match for Belgium.
Similar like against France, the outcome came down to the doubles match, when Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz defeated Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen to give Germany the victory. 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5)
Italy vs Argentina: 2-1
Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner helped Italy earn its second victory of the tournament and ensured that their side will participate in the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals’ Final 8.
With his team on the verge of losing and Jannik Sinner on the opposing end of the net, Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo had a difficult Davis Cup debut in the second match of the day.
The world No. 27 from Argentina had opportunities in the opening set, but he was unable to convert any of his four break points. This came back to haunt him, as Sinner took advantage of his second chance at a break to move ahead 6-5 before serving out the set at 7-5.
The Argentine had a good start in the second set, breaking Sinner’s service twice to establish an early 5-0 lead. Sinner’s defence was being weakened by Cerundolo’s, who also tied the game 7-5, 1-6.
United States vs Kazakhstan: 2-1
With the two victories, the Americans are nearly certain to go to the quarterfinals.
In Glasgow, Scotland, Fritz defeated Alexander Bublik 7-6 (6) 1-6 6-3 before Paul defeated Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1, 6-4. Later, in the doubles match, Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock were defeated by Bublik and Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-2, 7-6 (6).
