Croatia vs Argentina: 3-0

Italy defeated Sweden in Bologna to earn the opening point of their Group A match. With the victory, Croatia has advanced through the Final 8, which will be held in Malaga from November 22–27.

Elias Ymer, ranked 119th in the world, was defeated by world No. 15 Matteo Berrettini in 75 minutes. A few contented Croatians joined the 8,000 Italian supporters in the Unipol Arena in their celebration.

Sweden needed a 3-0 victory to go to the Final 8 after defeating Argentina and then Croatia earlier in the tournament, but Berrettini’s triumph put an end to the Scandinavians’ hopes.

The Croatians, who defeated Argentina by a score of 3-0 yesterday, had to wait to find out the result of today’s match.

USA vs Netherlands: 1-2

The Netherlands were the fourth-ranked Davis Cup team in Group D when they arrived at the Emirates Arena, but after defeating Kazakhstan on Tuesday, Paul Haarhuis’ team went on to defeat Great Britain and the United States, with the Americans already knowing that they would be joining the Dutch in the Final 8.

The key player in Netherlands’ success has been world No. 35 Van de Zandschulp, who broke the tie with a commanding 6-4, 7-6(3) victory over world No. 12 Taylor Fritz and recorded his third singles victory of the week.
However, the court has worked excellently in Van de Zandschulp’s favour, enabling him to play behind his powerful serve and concentrate on his returns in order to gain an early advantage in rallies. However, the Dutchman was under duress early on and held serve at 2-2 after surviving four break points.

Griekspoor defeated Tommy Paul earlier in the day in Glasgow to earn his second victory of the week (7-5, 7-6(3)).

After losing against Dan Evans on Friday, the world No. 48 made an amazing comeback. Paul’s resistance was finally broken late in the first set thanks to the world No. 48’s unrelenting intensity and abundant power from the baseline at both ends of the court.

In the doubles match, Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock earned a consolation victory for the Americans by rallying to defeat Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4, bringing the tie’s final score to 2-1.

Serbia vs Canada: 2-1

Despite losing 2-1 to Serbia in Group B on Saturday, Canada secured its spot in the Final 8 of the 2022 Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals.

With a decisive 6-3, 6-4 victory over Miomir Kecmanovic in the second singles, Felix Auger-Aliassime guaranteed Frank Dancevic’s squad a spot in the Knock-out Stage. And with the tie’s score tied at 1-1, Canada had a chance to take first place by winning the doubles match.

Vasek Pospisil, who has put his life on the line this week in Valencia, could only last three games before retiring with a knee injury in the doubles with Alexis Galarneau, giving Serbia’s Kecmanovic and Filip Krajinovic the victory and tying the match.

France vs Belgium: 2-1

After suffering two heartbreaking losses against Germany and Australia, which pretty much summed up France’s campaign, Mahut and Rinderknech prevailed 6-3, 7-6(6) in a crucial double match to record their first match victory of the week.

Sebastien Grosjean’s squad couldn’t capitalise on the win in Group C since earlier losses had dashed chances of making it to the Final 8, which will be held in Malaga from November 22–27.

David Goffin, a former world No. 7, used all of his Davis Cup knowledge and expertise to defeat Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in the second singles round, sending the match to the doubles.
