Benavidez will fight David Lemieux for the interim WBC super-middleweight title from the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday. In 2021, Benavidez, a two-time WBC 168-pound champion, fought twice and won both times by TKO. Benavidez defeated Ronald Ellis in the 11th round in March 2021. The 25-year-old then defeated Kyrone Davis in seven rounds in November to maintain undefeated in 25 matches. He now enters the arena against possibly his most formidable opponent to date.

Since surrendering the IBF middleweight title to Gennadiy Golovkin in October 2015, Lemieux, a former middleweight champion, has gone 9-1 with five knockouts. Last June, Lemieux knocked off David Zegarra in the second round.
