On Saturday at the Bournemouth International Centre, Dan Azeez bagged eighth-round KO win over veteran Rocky Fielding to assert his status as British light-heavyweight champion in addition to winning vacant Commonwealth light-heavyweight title. Following his impressive win, Azeez has joined the club of elites like Callum Smith and Canelo Alvarez as the only boxers to stop Rocky Fielding. Azeez has now improved his professional record to 18-0, while Fielding has dropped to 30-3. Dan Azeez vs Rocky Fielding Match Events & Post-match Reactions
Azeez got off to a strong start, outworking Fielding in the opening round as the Liverpudlian struggled to find his footing. Early in the second round, Fielding suffered a cut over his left eye, most likely from a collision of heads when Azeez drew low and applied heavy pressure to Fielding. In the third round, Fielding was attempting to catch Azeez as he swung in low with hooks, but Azeez ducked beneath them and drove Fielding against the ropes. Beginning with the fourth-round, Fielding played aggressively to match Azeez, but the later continued to land more punches and dominate the fight.
In the seventh round, when Azeez had Fielding under continual pressure and floored him with a right to the body at the very end of the round, the fight started to get more one-sided. After Fielding’s corner Moore sensed danger for his boxer, he threw in the towel that signaled stoppage of match at 2:05 of the eighth-round and KO victory for Dan Azeez.
