The movie made on a budget of Rs.1 crore has already made Rs.2 crore.

The film Daman, directed by Devi Prasad Lenka and Vishal Mourya, follows the efforts of a doctor stationed in a secluded hamlet. He is placed in the Malkangiri district to provide medical care and spread knowledge about shunning superstitions. The second main character in Daman, Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, stands out for having original material based on a true story that captivated the audience.ย

Director Mourya Feels Confident For The Movie Along With Odia Cinemaย
According to Mourya, the movie’s producers searched for an unconventional idea that wasn’t romantic or action-oriented but rather something that audiences could identify with. He said, “The tale of the doctor who played an important role in treating malaria patients and eradicating the disease in an interior village touched us quickly.”ย
He said that the process of making the movie was pretty difficult. The team was concerned about whether the producers and local public would approve of the film’s concept. He further continued, “Anything could have occurred; it was a gamble. But at the end of the day, the answer is soul-satisfying.”ย
The Cast And Crew Went Threw Multiple Obstaclesย
The terrain and bad weather at the shooting locations in Daman were significant obstacles. However, with a very helpful and creative crew and support team, the vision came to life on the reel.ย
Lenka explained her primary goal in a brief interview with this portal: “To make a wonderful movie with a message. A notion that can transcend national boundaries and symbolise my state of Odisha. Daman received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public, which has put pressure on me to keep producing high-quality work.”ย

When the bridge over the Gurupriya River was not finished in 2020, Lenka worked on a documentary titled “DAMaN” in Malkangiri’s Chitrakonda block, where malaria and healthcare, in general, were major concerns. The government of Odisha started the malaria intervention programme known as DAMaN (Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakaran).ย
According to film critic Dilip Hali, these kinds of movies strongly convey to civilization how rural residents turn to superstition cures for life-threatening illnesses.ย
Lenka pleaded with the state government and theatre owners to provide some financial assistance for Odia movies, claiming it was challenging to compete with Hindi and English movies that were produced with substantial budgets.
