I’m at the vigil for Ethan Boyes, there are tracks up the embankment at the crash site you can see how the driver must have been going a very high rate of speed to not correct for the turn and cross to the other side of the roadway. This type of driving is totally normalized. pic.twitter.com/qa0An4o9bQ
Boyes was hurt seriously enough to die.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the 44-year-old had life-threatening wounds and was brought to the hospital, where he passed away. Paramedics also transported the car’s driver, who had non-life-threatening injuries as well. The US Park Police is still looking into the collision.
The authorities did not disclose whether the driver was detained or whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. However, a representative for the family asserted that law enforcement was unable to confirm an arrest but that the driver had been held. Shaana Rahman, a representative for the family, told The Chronicle on Thursday night that Ethan was “a very accomplished cyclist and well recognised in the bicycle community.” For the family and the San Francisco cycling community, this death is extremely tragic.
Boyes’ girlfriend informed several of his cycling friends about the awful news. Boyes was struck head-on by a car when he was riding in a bike line, according to Brian Keyte, owner of Paragon Fit Studio. The automobile turned across the centre line and into the bike lane, according to “multiple eyewitness statements.”
