What is the case of Nicola Bulley?

Nicola Bulley, a 43-year-old mother of two, disappeared from her home in Thornton-Cleveleys, close to Blackpool, in November 2021. When her family got worried that she hadn’t come home, they called the police. Police started looking for her, and in December 2021, her body was found in the River Wyre.

The case got a lot of attention on social media. And many people used TikTok and other sites to try to figure out what happened to Ms. Nicola Bulley. The police also asked for information through social media. For example, Lancashire Police tweeted updates and photos about the search.

When conspiracy theories started to spread on social media, the case took a darker turn. Some people said that Ms. Bulley didn’t really go missing and that the search operation was staged with actors. People said that TikTok should take more responsibility for the content that appears on its site. Because it let these theories get out there.
