For those who are unfamiliar, let us tell you, last week, a Boston-based content creator and make-up artist, Zoe Kim Kenealy, shared a new video which instantly became viral.

The now viral video has been directed at “unstable girlies,” which has created a “sorrowful look” using make-up.

As of now, the footage has been viewed almost 3 million times, while the hashtag of it i.e, #CryingMakeup has received more than 5.1 million views.

The trend was created by Kim after she created some redness around her eyes, cheeks and nose. She even went on to use some glittering eye shadow to make her eyes look teary.

Moreover, she even smudged her lip with color and gloss to give it a teary look. And yes, as the mass of people are agreeing, “Sad” indeed turned pretty.

After Kim shared her footage, many flooded her posts with comments. Meanwhile many started sharing their own version of “crying makeup” videos.

How To Get the Sad and Teary Look?

For those who want to try the look to hop on the trend here’s you can do that as in her video tutorials, Zoe revealed how to create a cry mood.

Here’s the steps to get your “sad” look:

As per Zoe, the one who’s trying the look has to begin it with focusing on the blurry lips. In her video Zoe revealed, “We want that puffy soft lip right?”.

For a puffy soft lip, Zoe suggested using, “Soft Spoken Velvet Creme from EM Cosmetics, and then blurring the edges with a brush.”

She also stated that a person can use any similar kind of shade from any brand they want.

After which, they need to apply a neutral lip liner. To make it look wet, a person has to top it off with some lip oil, to make it “ultra-glossy.”

Later, you need to use a blush cream over and under the eyes, on cheeks and across the nose.

Followed by it, you need to add some liquid glitter on the bottom of the lash line alongside some effect eye gloss. As per Zoe, the effect is used to shine the eyelids, cheeks and cupid’s bow.

Zoe suggested finishing the look by curling up lashes.

For those who are unfamiliar about Zoe, let us tell you, she’s a Boston-based make-up artist. The artist has more than 119,000 followers on TikTok.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the 26-year-old revealed that she was inspired by two East Asian make-up trends including Douyin and Ulzzang.

As per Zoe, these two involve, “ample amounts of blush, glitter and highlighting the under-eye area for an overall cherubic effect”.

In her conversation with the outlet, Zoe added, “It’s inspired by the twinkle in your eye you get after you cry. It’s a makeup look I wouldn’t necessarily wear outside. It’s not meant to deceive anyone.”

A postdoctoral researcher, Fredrika Thelandersson, from Sweden’s Lund University explained the trend.

She stated that, “In the current landscape, celebrities and brands want to have authenticity, to appear real. One way to do this is to disclose a diagnosis or reveal a trauma. It’s literally profitable to show some kind of vulnerability.”
