The Punjab Kings team opened the bidding at the base price as none of the other teams opted to take him.
In the IPL auction 2023, apart from signing with Raza, the Punjab Kings team also signed all rounder Sam Curran for a sum of Rs. 18.25 Crore, it is the highest price in IPL auction history.
Who’s Sikandar Raza?
For those who are unfamiliar with Raza, let us tell you, the Pakistani born player whose full name is Sikandar Raza Butt was born in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan on April 24, 1986.
Though he was born in Sialkot, he emigrated to Zimbabwe in 2002 along with his family members.
Raza started playing cricket at the domestic level and soon enough he emerged as the best batsman and caught the eye of Zimbabwe selectors. However, the only issue that he encountered was citizenship, which was resolved in 2011.
The player is well known for playing in all formats primarily as a batter. Raza originally played for List A for Northerns but later, he switched to play for Mashonaland Eagles.
The player made his twenty-20 debut in 2010 for Southern Rocks against the Desert Vipers. He turned out to be a T20 specialist and was the leading run-scorer in the 2010 Stanbic Bank.
