Sharma started playing cricket in school and was trained by coach Kamaljeet Singh. In his first-class cricket career, he played for Punjab, debuted his league career with the Kings XI Punjab Indian Premier, and was a part of the U19 World Cup.

Sharma became the first bowler to remove Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers (the best batting trio at the time) in the same match on May 5, 2017, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, helping his team win a low-scoring thriller.
