Iftikhar Ahmed was chosen to play for Peshawar in the Faysal Bank T20 Cup after engaging in a substantial amount of club cricket, and he made his debut in Lahore in 2010. While England was touring the UAE in October 2015, he was chosen to play for Pakistan’s “A” team and made an amazing 92 runs.
Later, he was chosen for the senior team for the ODI series and made his ODI debut in the second game. However, his performance in the two games was lackluster, with scores of 5 and 3. He made his test debut in 2016 when he took Mohammad Hafeez’s position in the middle order during Pakistan’s four-match test series against England. Yet he once again delivers a bad performance.
Due to this, Iftikhar Ahmed was compelled to return to domestic cricket to better himself. He started to get better, and his consecutive century in 2017 helped Peshawar win the Regional One-Day Cup. He frequently becomes a leading scorer for his franchise in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and domestic games.
Eventually, the Pakistan Cricket Board gave him a central contract and then placed him on the team for Pakistan’s series against Sri Lanka in September 2019. He recorded his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket in November 2020 when taking on Zimbabwe.
