In the ninth over of the second inning, Stoinis attempted to go inside out over cover with a drive. Stoinis chipped the ball into the air, where it would have and ought to have safely landed far from the fielder and sweeper.

The ball was about to fly out, but Phillips, who had approached from a distance, dove for it, went two-handed and grasped onto it as he fell to the ground. Phillips has successfully established himself as an early front-runner for the tournament’s biggest grab.

Glenn Phillips: Who Is He?

Phillips was born in South Africa and moved to New Zealand when he was five years old. On January 24, 2015, he entered the Ford Trophy, making his List A debut. He has a highest score of 108 in T20 cricket while his height stands at 5 feet 11 inches and is engaged to his long-time girlfriend Kate Victoria.

In the 2016-17 Super Smash on December 4, 2016, Phillips made his Twenty20 debut against the Otago Volts, opening the batting and scoring 55 runs off 32 deliveries. He has scored the most runs in Super Smash Bros. with a total of 369.

He made his first century against Central Districts in the final regular-season game, which the Stags won by a Duckworth-Lewis score (116 not out). He is the only other domestic player, Hamish Marshall being the first, to score one hundred in each of the game’s three formats during a single domestic season.

He played his first-ever first-class match on March 6, 2017, against Canterbury in the Plunket Shield. In June 2018, Auckland offered him a contract for the 2018–19 season.

Prior to the commencement of the 2018 Caribbean Premier League, he was mentioned as one of the five players to watch. In June 2020, barely in time for the domestic cricket season of 2020–21, he received a contract offer from Auckland.

In July of that year, he was added to the Jamaica Tallawahs team for the Caribbean Premier League. He played for Welsh Fire in the Hundred’s inaugural season in 2021. In August 2021, he was added to the Barbados Royals team for the Caribbean Premier League.

In February of 2022, during the Indian Premier League auction, he was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad. In April 2022, Phillips signed a new contract with Gloucestershire to play in the English T20 Blast.

New Zealand’s Otago League

In April 2022, Phillips promised to join Otago in the national league of New Zealand.

Intent on becoming a true all-rounder under coach Dion Ebrahim, he enrolled at Otago with his younger brother Dale. The fact that he signed a central New Zealand cricket deal in May 2022 meant that his contract did not increase the Otago retainer salary bill.

For the New Zealand Twenty20 team’s series against South Africa in February 2017, Martin Guptill was added after the injured player was forced to withdraw. He participated in his maiden Twenty20 international match for New Zealand on February 17, 2017, at Eden Park in Auckland.

For their series against India in October 2017, he was a member of the New Zealand One Day International team. That series, though, he didn’t take part in. Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls both displayed flu-like symptoms, therefore Phillips was inserted into the New Zealand Test squad for the third match against Australia in December 2019. In a New Zealand Test match, he took the field for the first time against Australia on January 3, 2020.

On November 29, 2020, during the second game against the West Indies, Phillips hit his first T20I century. It was also the quickest century by a New Zealand batsman in a T20I match, coming off just 46 balls.

In May 2021, New Zealand Cricket gave Phillips his first central contract ahead of the 2021–22 campaign. In August 2021, Phillips was chosen to represent New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

In June 2022, Phillips travelled with the New Zealand ODI teams on their tours of Scotland and Ireland. He participated in New Zealand’s first ODI match against Ireland on July 10, 2022.
