The young pacer who presumably dismissed in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad got cancelled out early in the powerplay, after the TV umpire declared it a no-ball.

The right-arm fast bowler then went on to bowl a costly spell of 1/44 in four overs only managing to take the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane.

Prior to the toss, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya revealed that Darshan Nalkande is the only new inclusion. He had come on as a like-for-like replacement for Yash Thakur.

Darshan Nalkande is and Indian cricketer who was born on October 4, 1998, in Maharashtra’s Wardha to parents Girish and Sapna Nalkande. His mother Sapna Nalkande is a lawyer by profession. Darshan has two other siblings, a brother and sister and is the youngest of the three. Prior to becoming a professional cricketer, Darshan graduated from Dr. Ambedkar College in Nagpur. Darshan eventually got scouted by his coach while playing at a summer camp at Akola Cricket Club.

Darshan Nalkande is currently an uncapped Indian player, who plays for the Vidarbha cricket team in domestic cricket. He has previously represented the India U-19 cricket team and plays a right-arm fast bowler known for generating good pace and can bowl in the 135-145 kmph region.

Darshan first gained prominence during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 season when he took four wickets in four balls. The match was against Karnataka and Darshan took the wickets during the last over of the innings. Despite his best efforts, Vidarbha ended up losing the game by four runs.

Later in 2019 Darshan first joined the IPL after the Punjab Kings scouted him into the team. Despite initially joining the IPL in 2019, Darshan Nalkande made his IPL debut only last season for the Gujarat Titans. The 24-year-old bowler played only two games throughout the entire tournament and took two wickets in his debut game. His best bowling spell last season was 2/37, and it came against Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium. The Titans successfully defended 191 during that match.
