Born on November 10, 1950, in Koottikkal village, Kottayam district, Rajendran initiated his political journey at 18 while studying at NSS College in Vazhoor. At 23, he assumed the role of state secretary for AIYF (All India Youth Federation, CPI’s youth wing). Having a close connection with his father, a plantation manager, Rajendran gained insights into the lives and struggles of workers from an early age.
While serving as an MLA, he proposed a bill for the welfare of construction workers. Representing the Vazhoor constituency, he won two terms in the state Assembly in 1982 and 1987. Despite facing electoral setbacks in subsequent years, Rajendran continued to gain political influence, particularly after assuming the role of state secretary of the CPI.
