Over time, the trophy’s base has experienced minor modifications. In some later models, it had one or two platforms, but before 1979, it had no base at all.

Uruguay was the first squad to raise the coveted trophy at the Copa America’s inaugural ceremony in 1916, held in Argentina. 

The current Copa América trophy was purchased in 1916 from “Casa Escasany”, a jewelry shop in Buenos Aires, at a cost of 3,000 Swiss francs.

The award is made of shining silver and is a remarkable two feet five inches (77 cm) tall. It weighs 20lb (9kg).

The Albiceleste took home the $11 million prize in the Brazil 2021 tournament.

The continental competition is coming back to the US, and it will provide a 72 million dollar jackpot this time around. 

The remaining 40 million dollars will be given as prize money. This amount is more than twice as much as the 19.5 million dollars given to competitors in 2021; the year when Argentina, the reigning champions, were given 6.5 million dollars.
