Jeremy took to his social media platform Twitter and penned down on Tuesday that, “As of now, Cowboys do not plan to pursue significant trade for a QB barring unforeseen change, per source.”
He further added, “Cowboys won’t take any possibility completely off table, but with Dak Prescott’s improved timeline and Cooper Rush’s familiarity with offense, the team feels it can be patient.”
Last season, Cooper Rush also forced to fill in for an injured Prescott, who got injured while playing in the team’s game against the Minnesota Vikings on Halloween last year.
During that game, he actually impressed everyone while completing 24-of-40 pass attempts for 325 yards and a touchdown beating Minnesota 20-16.
As a member of Cowboys, Rush has been relegated to a third string duty during the most of his 4 years, however his familiarity with the personnel and offensive scheme has led the organization to believe and feel confident that he’s the best option right now for them.
In a statement Jones Jori Epstein of USA Today Sports said, “He can play at a level that we can win ball games. The main thing about him as a backup quarterback is we didn’t have to alter the offense to have him.”
Given the current state of the Cowboys, for now it’s not important whether or not Rush can play at a competent level, but the important question is rather whether or not it really matters who’s throwing passes.
We all saw, before being injured, Prescott was clearly struggling without Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup in his offense.
At the time he threw for just 134 yards and had an interception while being constantly under siege from the tough Buccaneers defensive front.
In his replacement duty, Rush has completed 7 of his 13 passes for 64 yards. Though Rush might be a virtual unknown, Jones is going into this situation with an over optimistic mindset.
In a statement Jones revealed that, “Candidly, we have to look at it, and I don’t see this in the horizon, but I’m going to use it as an example of how I felt when Tony Romo went down against Seattle.”
Now the Cowboys have given the first opportunity to silence many of his critics when the host Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon.
