The 17th Gold Cup will take place between June 24 and July 16, 2023. There are 16 teams vying for the regional title this year. The draw, which divided the 15 CONCACAF countries and the visiting Qatari squad into four groups of four, was placed on April 14 at SoFi Stadium in California. Toronto, Arlington, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Glendale, Harrison, Inglewood, Paradise, St. Louis, San Diego, Santa Clara, and Houston twice will all serve as host cities for the games.

The USMNT, the odds-on favourites and seven-time reigning champions, will attempt to win another title. But Mexico, fresh from a humiliating loss in 2021, will be aiming to exact revenge by taking home a record-breaking ninth trophy. The top two teams from each of the four zones that make up group play for the Gold Cup advance to the knockout phase. On July 16, a contest will take place at SoFi Stadium, and the winner will take home the trophy.

The USMNT will attempt to win the Gold Cup for the first time in a row since Mexico did it in 2009 and 2011, while everyone else—aside from the Americans and El Tri—will be attempting to make it the first non-USA vs. Mexico final since 2017.

The 2023 Gold Cup’s total prize money has not yet been disclosed by CONCACAF, however, it is anticipated to be allocated similarly to the 2021 competition. The previous winners received a relatively meagre $1 million.

It is around half of what will reportedly be offered for winning the most recent Gold Cup competition later this summer. Mexico also received $500,000 as the second-place prize. Last time, just $3.2 million in participation fees were given to the 16 teams who competed. For taking part, each of those teams won $200,000 each.
