2022 Commonwealth Games – Women’s Hockey Teams, Groups, India vs Wales Results, Upcoming Schedule, Date, Time, And Venue
In their second straight victory at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the India Women’s Hockey Team defeated Wales 3-1 on Saturday. India now leads Pool A with six points after two games after this victory. Gurjit Kaur added a goal for India, but Vandana Katariya stole the show with a brace. Wales’ Xenna Hughes scored a goal, in contrast.
India got off to a strong start, full of confidence, but they were unable to get traction in the first quarter. India maintained their calm demeanour and were rewarded for it as veteran striker Vandana opened the scoring in the 26th minute. At the Penalty Corner, Vandana successfully deflected Gurjit’s attempt. In the 28th minute of the game, Gurjit went on to increase India’s lead from a penalty corner.
India went into the second half with a 2-0 lead and continued to put pressure on their opponents with the same vigour. Wales, who would not give up easy, were rewarded for their efforts at the end of the third quarter when the score was down to 2-1. In the final second of the third quarter, Xenna Hughes successfully converted the penalty corner. With the same attacking zeal, India began the final period, and they went on to increase their advantage to 3-1 thanks to Vandana, who once more deftly deflected the ball from close range during Monika’s effort at PC.
