2022 Commonwealth Games – Men’s Hockey India vs Australia Gold Medal Match Results, Score, And Bronze Medal Winner
With speed and vigor, the Australians charged forward and nearly took the lead in the second minute, but PR Sreejesh’s stick work kept them from doing so. The Australians kept up their fluid hockey style, and in the ninth minute they were ultimately rewarded when Blake Govers, a specialist in penalty corners, flicked the ball between PR Sreejesh’s legs.
With one minute remaining in the first quarter, the Indians let up their second goal. The Indian defense was breached by the Australian midfield, and Flynn Ogilvie once more found space between PR Sreejesh’s legs. The winning stroke came from Nathan Ephraums, who increased the lead for the defending champions to 2-0.
In the second period, Australia scored three more goals to put the game out of India’s reach. Additionally, after captain Manpreet Singh and Aran Zalewski clashed in the 25th minute, India, who was already playing without midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad, took a significant hit. Numerous Australian tries that were about to cross the goal line were stopped by PR Sreejesh, but in the lack of a staunch Indian defence, goals from Tom Wickham and Jacob Anderson in the 26th and 27th minutes made it 5-0 for Australia.
In the 42nd minute, Flynn Ogilvie skillfully passed a long ball to Nathan Ephraums, who easily finished it for Australia’s sixth goal. Then, in the 46th minute, Flynn Ogilvie and Nathan Ephraums switched roles to make it 7-0 for Australia. Timothy Brand received the pass from Nathan Ephraums inside the defensive end, who then found Flynne Ogilvie’s stick. Ogilvie made no mistakes in getting the ball past PR Sreejesh.
