Weightlifters shine on the second day of the 2022 Commonwealth Games as Mirabai Chanu provides India with its first gold medal in the competition, know the live medal tally and medals winners list with names

CWG, 22, Day Two: It was a great day for India as weightlifters added four medals to its tally after the end of the second day.

Mirabai Chanu once again impressed everyone with her performance in the competition. She secured gold for India in the 49kg weightlifting final by lifted 88kg (snatch) and 113 kg (clean and jerk) category. Mirabai Chanu secured the first yellow for India in this competition.

In the women’s 55kg weightlifting event, Bindyarani Devi secured the silver medal for India. She lifted an 86+116kg (snatch/clean and jerk) category. Bindyarani once again proved why she is known as Mirabai Chanu 2.0.

In the men’s 55kg and 61 kg weightlifting final event Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary brought India it’s first medals in the competition by securing silver and bronze respectively.

Commonwealth Games, 22 results from India following Day Two

Weightlifting: Indian athletes secured four medals in the weightlifting event on day two. Mirabai Chanu secured gold in the 49kg category, Bindyarani Devi brought India a silver in 55kg category. Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary brought India silver and bronze in men’s 55kg and 61kg categories.

Hockey: In Hockey, the Indian women’s team threshed Wales by 3-1 scoreline.

Boxing: Lovelina Borgohain reached the next round after defeating Araine Nicholson by a unanimous decision. Mohammad Husammudin beat Amzolele Dyeyi of South Africa to claim his spot for the quarterfinals.

Badminton: India defeated Sri Lanka 5-0, 4-1 in Group A mixed team events.

Squash: men’s singles round of 32, Saurav Ghoshal beats Samil Wakeel of Sri Lanka by 3-0. Joshua Chinappa reached the pre-quarters, whereas India’s youngest athlete lost to Emily Whitlock of Wales by 3-0.

Table Tennis: The men’s team topped the group after beating Northern Ireland by 3-0. The women’s team beat Guyana by 3-0 to register their three out of three wins in the group.

SwimmingIt was a disappointing show for India in Swimmings, as Kushagra Rawat finished last in men’s 200m freestyle with a timing of 1:54.56.

Cycling: Vishavjeet Singh and Dinesh Kumar could not qualify for the finals after finishing 18th and 19th in the men’s 4000m event.

Gymnastics: Ruthuja Natraj and Pranati Nayak finished 6th and 14th in the women’s team final and individual qualification round.
