Colleen has also won multiple awards for her web-based acts, including a Teen Choice Award and a Streamy Award in 2015. Unfortunately, she is in the middle of a scandal because several people have come forward to say that she did inappropriate things with fans who were underage at the time. Here’s what we know so far about Colleen Ballinger’s story.
Colleen Ballinger controversy explained
Younger people seem to like what Colleen has to say. Sadly, this is said to have led to some awkward meetings with her fans and accusations that she “grooms” some of her younger fans.
Kodee, who is known for their drama-focused YouTube account KodeeRants, posted about their experience with Colleen and included screenshots of text messages that supposedly link Colleen to group chats with both minors and adults.
“I did not know at the time that there were minors in these group chats,” Kodee admitted when they, as an adult, were first added. “I should have done the research on [this], so I want to apologize to any child who was in these group chats.” She continued “I should not have been in a group chat with you.”
In addition to their public apology, Kodee also posted photos of times when Colleen asked inappropriate questions to fans who were underage at the time. Adam McIntyre was one of those fans.
Controversial relationship between Colleen Ballinger and Adam McIntyre
Adam McIntyre spoke out in 2017 about what he said was inappropriate behaviour by Colleen towards him, many years before Kodee did. She was accused of using Adam, who was 17, to work for free on her social media sites when he was only 13. Colleen may have even asked him embarrassing questions about sex at the time.
Even though Adam said that many people, including Kodee, were manipulated into speaking out against him, Kodee’s admission in 2023 that he did this seems to back up Adam’s claims.
Since Kodee first spoke out against Colleen, Adam has shared two long videos in which he talks about his scary time with Colleen in more detail. He even had Kodee join him on a stream to thank them for being the first person to back them in public during his campaign against Colleen.
If Adam’s accusations and Kodee’s screenshots are any sign, though, Colleen may not have been inappropriate with Adam alone.
When the news came out, people were already trying to stop Colleen from going out in public again.
Colleen Ballinger speaks out against the accusations
In one TikTok, someone who knew about the Colleen drama said, “YouTube is becoming just as corrupt as Hollywood, and it’s scary.” Many people on Twitter point to how she seems to act with her own kids as a clear and present sign of how bad she is with kids.
Colleen answered the charges in the end. Colleen took out a ukulele and started singing about the accusations in a 10-minute YouTube video that was posted on June 28.
Her “apology” video, which she says she posted against the advice of her publicists, is a quirky little song in which she accuses people of spreading rumours about her on the “toxic gossip train” and says that the rumours have pretty much destroyed her career.
She talks directly about how, many years ago, she used to message her friends in “a loser kind of way” in which she tried to be “besties with everyone.” In her song, she said that she overshared in many of her messages, but she also said that the facts were exaggerated and that people were more interested in the story of her fall than the truth.
Colleen Ballinger has only groomed her cats
“The only thing I’ve ever groomed is my two Persian cats,” Colleen declares about six minutes in, directly confronting the accusations made against her. “I’m just a loser who didn’t understand [that] I shouldn’t respond to fans.”
She makes it clear in her video that she wanted to take responsibility, but she also slams the claims and refuses to say anything that sounds like an apology.
“I never had any bad intentions,” she states between verses. “But I do feel like s–t.”
Most people don’t think Colleen has learned anything from what has happened. Even though the internet thought it was interesting that she turned her reaction into a song, many people feel that Colleen has used her platform to make herself look like the victim.
