Cocaine Bear Movie Release Date, True 1985 Story, Cast, Trailer

Are you under the assumption that Cocaine Bear is a metaphor, think again and know the 2023 release date of the movie

The narrative of a bear that discovers and snorts cocaine is depicted in this movie, and there is plenty of it. Even if it seems like a comedy, the irony is lessened by the knowledge that the situation truly occurred.

Cocaine Bear Movie Release Date, True 1985 Incident Story, Cast, Trailer

The movie Cocaine Bear tells the story of a black bear that uses cocaine to get high in the wilderness. The premise is not clear to everyone, therefore you’re not alone! This is what we do know.

A cocaine smuggler jumped out of a plane in 1985 while the aircraft was flying over the southern United States while carrying several packages of the drug. He died from impact after his parachute did not deploy as expected.

It was later discovered, that a different duffel bag containing cocaine had also been thrown from the aircraft prior to its collision. This bag was discovered by a black bear in the middle of a Kentucky forest. It was immediately snorted by the bear, who later died from multiple organ failures.

We will have to wait and see how Cocaine Bear, which is intended to be a character-driven thriller, will make use of its bizarre and macabre premise.

The Cast of Cocaine Bear

Among the stars of Cocaine Bear is Keri Russell, who is nominated for multiple Emmys and Golden Globes for her work in The Americans. There she starred alongside Welsh actor Matthew Rhys, whom she later married.

Her wide filmography encompasses both high-profile Hollywood productions and independent, low-budget movies. She starred in movies like Mission Impossible: III, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Girl in the Park, and Dark Skies.

Keri has, however, had fewer appearances on the big screen lately. She was seen in supporting roles in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019 and in the main role in Scott Cooper’s supernatural horror movie Antlers in 2018.

O’Shea Jackson Jr., a.k.a. “OMG” to music lovers, also makes an appearance. Jackson Jr. made a splash in the entertainment industry in 2015 when he portrayed Ice Cube in Straight Outta Compton, F. Gary Gray’s historical film about the members of N.W.A.

Since then, he has worked hard in the comedy genre, appearing alongside Dave Franco in last year’s miniseries “The Now.” He is also Kawlan Roken from this summer’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, which Star Wars aficionados will remember.

Other Power Packed Star Cast

Other cast members include Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family, Christian Convery (Van Helsing, Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Emmy winner Margo Martindale. Another recent Star Wars veteran in Alden Ehrenreich, and Christian Convery (Van Helsing, Diary of a Wimpy Kid) (The Good Fight, The Watcher).

The most moving performance, though, will undoubtedly be that of Ray Liotta. His loss in May deprived the film business of one of its most beloved performers. Liotta transitioned to comedy a number of years ago. However, at the time of his passing, the Goodfellas and Field of Dreams actors were experiencing something of a dramatic comeback.

He had played several well-received roles in recent crime thrillers and action movies. This includes Steven Soderbergh’s “No Sudden Move” and HBO Max’s “The Many Saints of Newark”, as well as the miniseries Black Bird that was released this summer.

The fact that Elizabeth Banks is the film’s director comes as a final surprise. In the 2000s, Banks was rarely seen away from the big screen, and in the early 2010s, her success as an actress peaked with her well-received performance as Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games series.

Banks has since shifted more and more toward directing and producing roles, though. Following her most recent directing efforts on Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and the 2019 reboot of Charlie’s Angels, Cocaine Bear represents a sharp shift in tone. Ireland was the location for filming late last year.

Date Of Release

The United States will see the debut of Cocaine Bear on February 24, 2023.
