The AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26 will determine an interim championship holder, according to the company.

The Dynamite show on Wednesday will open off with an outrageous battle royal. With the winner facing Jon Moxley in the main event to determine a No. 1 contender.

The winner of that fight will most likely face Hiroshi Tanahashi next month to crown an interim AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

After The Best in the World recovers from his injuries, whoever wins the championship will face CM Punk in a unification match at a later date.

At first, the American grappler was supposed to defend his title against Tanahashi at Forbidden Door.

The 43-year-old former WWE superstar didn’t say what his injury was, but he assured me he’d be back.

There are a few things that aren’t working. My heart is the biggest one because I love nothing more than performing for all of you, and I wanted to go on a run like no other. The bad news is this.

“The good news is that I’m still capable of doing everything. I told you I’d go till the wheels fell off, and they’re still there; they haven’t fallen off yet.

“It’s just that one of them isn’t working. I’ve been through worse, and while I’ve felt better than I do now, I’m also here to tell you that I’ve been through a lot worse.”
