DY Chandrachud career
DY Chandrachud has served as the 45th Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court from 31st of October 2013 to 12th May 2016. Later, he was a Judge of the Bombay High Court from the 29th March 2000 to 30 October 2013.
In October 2022, U. U. Lalit nominated Justice D.Y. Chandrachud as his successor. Furthermore, on the 9th of November in 2022, Chandrachud was assumed as the 50th Chief Justice of India.
DY Chandrachud’s family and education
Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud was born on Wednesday, 11th of November in 1959. His age is 63 years as of 2023 and he was born in Mumbai, India. He finished schooling at Cathedral and John Connon School based in Mumbai, and St. Columbia School, Delhi.
He further pursued a degree in BA (Hons.) in the subject of Economics at St Stephen’s College, New Delhi. In early 1982, he finished his Bachelor in Law from the Faculty of Law at the University of Delhi. Yeshwant then enrolled in a Master of Laws degree in early 1983 and Doctorate in Juridical Sciences in 1986 from the Harvard Law School, USA.
DY Chandrachud’s father, Justice Yeshwant Vishnu Chandrachud, was the 16th Chief Justice of India, who served from 1978 to 1985. Y. V. Chandrachud is the longest-serving Chief Justice of India, who did his duty for the tenure of 2696 days.
His mother’s name is Prabha Chandrachud and she was a classical musician while he was the only child of his parents.
Chandrachud is married to Kalpana Das. They together have two children, Chintan Chandrachud and Abhinav Chandrachud, both are advocates while he also has adopted two foster daughters and both are differently-abled. He belongs to the Deshastha Rigvedi Brahmin family.
He has four children, including his two foster daughters Mahi (16) and Priyanka (20)
