The comedy film is directed by Rohit Shetty and it marks the second full-fledged collaboration of the famous director with Bollywood actor Ranveer after Simmba.
Box Office Performance
If you’re curious to know the performance of the movie at the box office, let us tell you, the film had an underwhelming start at the box office.
Though given the presence of Bollywood star’ Ranveer Singh, the movie was expected to have at least a double digit start but unfortunately it performed lower than expected. The movie was made on a budget of Rs.150 crore.
Cirkus managed to gross a sum of Rs. 6.25 Crore on its very first day and made a sum of Rs. 20.85 Crore over the weekend.
Although the movie was supposed to do great at the box office, it wasn’t able to achieve because of heavy competition with Avatar 2 release which affected the buzz of Cirkus. Avatar 2 has now become the 2nd highest grossing Hollywood movie in India.
Let us remind you Rohit and Raveer’s last movie Simmba managed to collect over Rs. 20 Crore on its very first day.
However, Rohit and Ranveer’s another Collab, Cirkus turned out to be a complete commercial failure noting the performance of it at the box office. It’s the third straight flip of Ranveer Singh in a row.
Previously Ranveer’s ’83 the film,’ failed to create a buzz among masses despite receiving rave reviews from the critics. And as it wasn’t able to create a buzz amongst audiences, the movie was considered a flop.
Ranveer’s subsequent release, Jayeshbhai Jordaar received criticism for its plotline and even acting and was considered as another flop of the 37-year-old actor.
Cirkus is now marked as the 3rd failure of Ranveer Singh’s at the box office. Let us remind you, the last hit movie of the actor was ‘Gully Boy,’ which was released in 2019.
Meanwhile, the actor had appeared in the blockbuster “Sooryavanshi,” but it wasn’t his own film as the credit went to Akshay Kumar.
Cirkus OTT Release Date
For those who are curious about the release date of Cirkus, let us tell you, the movie is all set to be released on OTT platform Netflix as the streaming rights of the movie is purchased by the streaming giant.
The comedy drama is expected to premiere on the digital platform in the first week of January, 2023, which will mark its 6th week after the theatrical release.
As the film performed quite poorly on the big screens, it is now expected that it’ll do much better at the online platforms.
