Sheffield United are in the works of bringing back Chris Wilder but his salary isn’t known yet

In a shocking turn of events, Sheffield United is on the brink of parting ways with manager Paul Heckingbottom, marking the Premier League’s first managerial dismissal this season.

The decision comes hot on the heels of a devastating 5-0 defeat at Burnley, leaving the Blades rooted at the bottom of the league with just five points from 14 games.

The club has reappointed former boss Chris Wilder who was also sacked by the Blades two years ago. His first game in charge comes against Liverpool and the club announced that Wilder will replace Heckingbottom and he has signed a contract until the summer of 2025, with coaches Alan Knill, Matt Prestridge and Keith Andrews joining him.

While his current salary isn’t known, according to Sportekz, as Sheffield United’s manager, he signed a new four-year contract at Sheffield United worth 3.25 million Euros per year back in 2021. He has a net worth of $5-10 million.

Wilder’s Sheffield United were using a dogged style of football, playing a flexible 3-5-2/5-3-2 with overlapping wide centre-backs supplying width and support to the attack during his first term at the club.

Heckingbottom, appointed as permanent manager in November 2021 after securing a second-place Championship finish, guided United to the top flight. However, the journey has been marred by struggles and controversies, culminating in the impending sacking. He was paid 1 million pounds per year at the club.

The defeat at Burnley proved to be the final straw, prompting Heckingbottom to criticize the club for prioritizing financial decisions over footballing ones.

The summer sale of key players, including Iliman NDiaye and Sander Berge, further fueled discontent within the squad.

“We’ve been making financial decisions rather than football decisions. Of course, that affects me. I didn’t want it to happen,” said Heckingbottom, addressing the challenges imposed by the club’s ownership.

Wilder, a former player for Sheffield United, enjoyed hero status after guiding the team through a double promotion from League One to the Premier League.

Former manager Chris Wilder, who led Sheffield United into the Premier League in 2019, is the frontrunner to replace Heckingbottom.

Wilder’s departure from the club in 2021 was followed by a brief stint at Watford, and his return to Bramall Lane is eagerly anticipated.

Chris Wilder emerges as the clear favorite to take over, with odds of 1/3. The Yorkshire-born manager’s potential return has sparked excitement among fans, who hope for a resurgence under his leadership.

Other contenders in the managerial race include Neil Warnock, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Neil Lennon, Nathan Jones, and Karl Robinson. However, Wilder’s track record with the club positions him as the preferred choice.

Beyond the managerial shake-up, Sheffield United grapples with ownership issues and concerns about relegation.

Rumors of a takeover persist, stemming from Prince Abdullah’s intention to sell the club. The team’s transfer policy and the departure of key players have added complexity to the on-field challenges.

The Blades, currently four points adrift from safety, face an uphill battle to avoid relegation. Wilder’s potential return raises hopes for a revival, but it remains to be seen how he navigates the team through these turbulent times.
