Lee Zii Jia advanced to the last 16 in the BWF China Masters 2023 after defeating his fellow Malaysian badminton player Ng Tze Yong. The world number 11 faced a tough challenge from Ng Tze Yong in Shenzhen during their men’s singles first-round match, which extended to a 75-minute contest. On Wednesday, the 25-year-old emerged victorious with a 21-15, 20-22, 21-17 score-line. Lee’s upcoming match will be against the Chinese shuttler Lu Guangzu.
Earlier, HS Prannoy progressed to the second round of the tournament with a decisive straight-game victory over Chou Tien Che. Despite missing several recent tournaments due to a back injury, the 31-year-old shuttler secured a 21-18, 22-20 triumph against Chen. Prannoy is now gearing up to confront Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen in the upcoming round. Meanwhile, Aakarshi Kashyap, the lone Indian representative in the women’s singles category, encountered a formidable challenge from China’s Zhang Yi Man, ultimately succumbing to a 12-21, 14-21 defeat in a 33-minute match.
