All About The Chhello Show
The coming-of-age drama film Chhello Show, which translates as Last Film Show, was directed by Pan Nalin in Gujarati in 2021. Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, and Paresh Mehta are among its cast members. On June 10, 2021, the movie had its world premiere at the 20th Tribeca Film Festival.
Chhello Show was chosen as India’s entry for the 95th Academy Awards’ Best International Feature Film category.
By paying off Fazal, a theatre projector technician, a nine-year-old Samay from Chalala, a village in Saurashtra in Gujarat state of India, gained entry to a projection booth and viewed multiple movies throughout summer. He had a lifelong obsession with film.
Because Nalin was raised in Saurashtra’s Adtala hamlet and was born there, the movie is somewhat autobiographical. Six village boys from the area’s small towns were cast. The movie was filmed in Saurashtra’s villages and train station. He also brought a technician to run the projectors as well as vintage Hindi films on celluloid.
Most of the actors in the cast are children. Casting director and Nalin’s friend Dilip Shankar helped Nalin find the young performers. The movie was filmed in March 2020, right before India went into lockdown because to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, the post-production was done. In collaboration with Virginie Lacombe’s Virginie Films, Eric Dupont’s Incognito films, Nalin’s Monsoon Films, Marc Duale’s Stranger88, and Dheer Momaya’s Jugaad Motion Picture, the movie is produced by these companies.
Hope and innocence are highlighted throughout the movie. Additionally, it highlights the declining single-screen and 35mm celluloid film cultures in India.
