On Monday, Division-1 winners quarterfinal matches of the 2023 Airthings Masters will be played with the defending champion Magnus Carlsen clashing against Alexey Sarana. Meanwhile, Indian prodigy Arjun Erigaisi will face-off against Alireza Firouzja and Gukesh will play Hikaru Nakamura.

2023 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 1 – Airthings Masters format, schedule, date, time, & participants
For the 2023 Champions Chess Tour, the tournament will feature hundreds of top players from around the world. In addition to several creative format changes intended to increase excitement and make every match matter, the tournament incorporates open qualifiers, a division structure to admit more players to the Tour. It is known that the 2023 Airthings Masters will be the first event of this year’s tour and total of fifty-four players will qualify from the play-in stage to the knockout stage, which is scheduled to begin on 6th February.
Both a Play-in stage that is open to all grandmasters and a Knockout stage with three categories are available at the Airthings Masters. The prize pools for each division are distinct, and players can gain Tour Points based on the division they competed in and their finish. This is the biggest event in the history of Chess.com, with a prize pool of $2,000,000 and six events leading up to a single final championship.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 1 – Airthings Masters 2023 prize money pool distribution
At the 2023 Airthings Masters, total $235,000 prize pool will be available with $112,500 reserved for Division-1, which will consist total of eight elite players. Meanwhile, Division-2 will contain a total of sixteen players and have net prize pool of $71,500. Similarly, the 32-player Division-3 will have prize pool amounting to $51,000.

According to the schedule, Monday’s matches will witness the first day of knockout matches and is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM CET. Meanwhile, the tournament’s live stream will be available for fans around the world to watch through the official YouTube channel of chess24.com or DAZN.
