Chelsea Transfer News 2021/22: Tammy Abraham Career
Abraham arrived at Chelsea when he was just 8-year-old learning to play football just like any other 8-year-old kid. His goal scoring records at Chelsea began at a very early age because of his ability to convert important goals for the club.
He progressed through the youth ranks of the Chelsea academy as a more mature player who had a pretty strong presence on the field. His first senior debut for the team came in 2015 under the interim manager of the club Guus Hiddink.
Loan Moves
Tammy left the club on loan in 2016 in order to play some regular football and joined Championship club Bristol City where he became an integral part of the team featuring in 48 games for the club in all competitions scoring 26 goals.
Subsequently, his standout performances made him the only player to win Bristol City’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and top goalscorer awards in one season.
He came back in the Premier League the following season signing a new 5-year deal with Chelsea and joining Swansea City on loan. However, this loan move was not what he expected as he only managed to bag 5 goals in 31 Premier League games.
Abraham moved to Aston Villa for his third successive loan spell where he again found his goalscoring form by featuring in 40 matches for the club in all competitions and chipping in 26 goals which made his claim for the starting spot in the Chelsea team the following year.
Arrival Of Frank Lampard
Club legend Frank Lampard was appointed as the head coach of Chelsea in 2019 when they were facing the repercussions of a transfer ban imposed by UEFA. However, Frank Lampard gave young players like Tammy, Mason Mount, Reece James, and Fikayo Tomori a chance to showcase their talent.
All the young players performed exceptionally well and Tammy Abraham was in the form of his life finding the net 18 times in 40 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions. However, the departure of Frank Lampard in the middle of last season impacted his career the most.
New manager Thomas Tuchel favored Timo Werner and Kai Havertz to handle the attacking transition and had no plans to play an all-out striker. He fell down the pecking order under the German coach who only gave him few opportunities.
Abraham was frustrated with his very little time on the field and was looking for a new club ahead of the new season. Meanwhile, the arrival of Romelu Lukaku has forced the English striker to accept a move away from Chelsea in search of regular football.
