Prediction

Following a first-round bye, World No. 4 Casper Ruud will face home favourite Richard Gasquet in the 2022 Paris Masters second round on Tuesday. After a season full of high points, Ruud has recently been having some problems. He had to retire from the Australian Open due to an injury, but he came back to win the Argentina Open. He then participated in his first Masters 1000 final at the Miami Open but lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

Ruud’s clay swing picked up steam as the year went on, he finished second at the French Open and won his second championship of the year at the Geneva Open. He didn’t progress well at Wimbledon, losing in the second round of the tournament. Then, the Norwegian won his third championship of the year by successfully defending his title in the Swiss Open. Ruud struggled to prepare for the US Open, losing to Ben Shelton in Cincinnati’s second round after having advanced to the quarterfinals in Canada. Even though he lost to Alcaraz once more, he was still able to reach the title round of the year’s final Grand Slam, giving him a career-high ranking of No. 2.

Ruud continued his season at the Korea Open, but Yoshihito Nishioka beat him in the quarterfinals. The next week, Jaume Munar upset him in the first round of the Japan Open. After falling to Stan Wawrinka in the Swiss Indoors first round last week, the World No. 4 entered Paris on a three-match losing run.

On the other hand, in Paris, Alex Molcan was here Richard Gasquet’s opponent in the opening round. The Frenchman dominated the second set, taking a 3-1 lead, but his opponent fought back to tie the match at 3-3. Gasquet then triumphed in the following three games in a row to take the set. In the second set, which was incredibly one-sided, the player swiftly raced out to a 5-0 lead. After that, Molcan was able to maintain his serve, and the Frenchman won the game 6-3, 6-1.

At his best, Gasquet has the ability to trouble the World No. 4 in a match. The Frenchman still has a backhand that is of the highest calibre and a formidable opponent. In the previous round, he had respectable serving figures, if he keeps it up, Ruud’s losing streak might grow longer. The Norwegian has improved this year, but it appears that he has regressed a little bit lately. Ruud is likely to step up his game to defeat Gasquet because he will be motivated to avoid picking up yet another defeat.
