Head To Head: 1-0
Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz have met once before in their entire ATP career so far and the Norwegian leads the head to head with 1-0.
Prediction
In the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open on Friday, Ruud comfortably defeated home favourite Felix Auger-Aliassime, losing to him in just three games. If he wins the trophy on Sunday, the Norwegian is predicted to jump back into the top five and reach a new career high of No 4. His post-Wimbledon run has been very impressive, and he’s still on track to make it to a second hard court final in North America in 2022.
Hurkacz, on the other hand, broke Nick Kyrgios’ 15-match winning streak in a thrilling match, putting him in prime position to win his second Masters 1000 championship. The eighth seed returned to winning ways on North American soil despite losing in the first round at Wimbledon. Hurkacz has a strong track record in this region of the continent after winning the biggest championship of his career in Miami the previous season. At the Montreal Masters, he was challenged to play his best tennis in each of his three matches, defeating Kyrgios, Ramos Vinolas, and Ruusuvuori in three sets.
Hurkacz was not served. Nick Kyrgios made it to the quarterfinals, which is a difficult accomplishment on a hard court. He can hit powerfully from either wing and moves quite effectively for a man of his size. However, Ruud, the men’s tour’s workhorse, is likely to be superior to him in terms of movement. Furthermore, the Norwegian’s serve is simply too well-honed to concede easy points, and his superior athleticism should enable him to defeat Hurkacz for the second time this year.
