Predictionย

In the semifinals of the 2022 ATP Finals on Sunday, Casper Ruud, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, will take against World No. 7 Andrey Rublev.

Ruud had previously qualified for the semifinals with victories over Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger-Aliassime. In his last group encounter, he faced Rafael Nadal, who was out in the running after dropping his first two games. For the majority of the first set, neither player hesitated when serving.

Ruud had a few break points in the ninth game but didn’t take advantage of them. When the set was 6-5, the Norwegian served to tie it, but Nadal broke his serve to win the match. Similar to the first set, the second saw both players maintain consistency on serves until Ruud faltered late. When the 23-year-old was serving to stay in the game at 6-5, Rafael Nadal broke his serve once more to win the match 7-5, 7-5.

On the other hand, Rublev won his opening match in the ATP Finals in three sets over Daniil Medvedev but went on to lose in straight sets to Novak Djokovic. The winner will advance to the final four, and it all came down to his match versus Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek quickly took a 4-1 lead in the opening set, which he maintained to win it.

For the majority of the second set, Rublev and his opponent were on an even playing field. He won the final three games of the set to win it and force a tiebreaker. To go up 3-1 in the third set, Rublev secured an early break. In the seventh game, he broke again, and he served out the match to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and advance to the semifinals for the first time.

Despite the fact that Rublev has a strong winning record against an opponent he has long crushed, there is a significant probability that Ruud will prevail this time.
