By defeating Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets, Sakkari won her group and qualified for the semifinals. She faced Ons Jabeur, the runner-up at the 2022 US Open and Wimbledon, in her final group match. In the first set, Sakkari got out to a quick start and quickly established a 5-1 lead. She then encountered a minor setback as she lost serve while attempting to complete the set. The Greek broke her opponent’s serve once more to take the opening set. Sakkari secured an early break to take the lead 3-1 in the second set. She maintained her edge to win 6-2, 6-3 over the opponent. She will be playing in her second semifinal after reaching the final four on her first visit in 2021.

On the other hand, prior to losing to Iga Swiatek at the WTA Finals, Garcia defeated Coco Gauff in her opening encounter. She played Daria Kasatkina in the final round-robin match, and the winner qualified for the final four. Kasatkina scored the opening point in the opening set, taking the lead 2-1. However, Garcia won the next three games in a row to take the lead 4-2. The Russian then took the next four games in a row to take the set.

Garcia advanced the match to a decider by winning the second set with just one point remaining. The first set was extremely unbalanced. The French player twice had a break advantage in the third set, but Kasatkina was able to return on service both times. By avoiding six break points even in the ninth game, the Russian managed to maintain a tenuous serve hold. The game went straight to a tie-break, which Garcia won to pull off a comeback victory of 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. (5).

Sakkari has been serving and muscling her forehand excellently for the entire week. Garcia has a chance to compete with the Greek on serve thanks to her powerful return game and general gameplay. However, the French player seemed quite worn out after her battle with Kasatkina. Sakkari has a history of losing games late in the game. If she can maintain her composure, she should be able to make it to the final.
