Head To Head: 2-0
Alcaraz is trailing Auger-Aliassime in their head-to-head matchup 2-0. He defeated the Spaniard recently in three sets at the Davis Cup in 2022.
Prediction
The 2022 Swiss Indoors semifinal will take place on Saturday, with Felix Auger-Aliassime, the third seed, taking on Carlos Alcaraz, the current World Number One.
Alcaraz advanced to the round of eight by defeating Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets after defeating Jack Draper in three sets in the opening round. He competed against fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz got things started by breaking serve in the fourth game and winning the first set by a score of three games to one. Carreno Busta had a couple break points to return to serving in the seventh game, but he didn’t take advantage of them. To make the score 3-5, the senior Spaniard then saved a few set points.
The teenager was able to take the set, though, by serving it out in the game after that. Alcaraz led 2-0 in the second set, but Carreno Busta rallied to square the match. The defending US Open winner earned another service break at the very end of the set. Alcaraz then won the game 6-3, 6-4 with ease and moved on to his seventh semifinal of the year.
However, in the second round, Auger-Aliassime defeated Marc-Andrea Huesler in a gruelling three-set match before defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-0. After that, in the quarterfinals, he played Alexander Bublik. While it required some work, Auger-Aliassime broke serve to start the game. He made another break in the seventh game to increase his advantage to 5-2.
The set was then promptly served to end with him winning. Auger-Aliassime confidently entered the second set with a 4-2 advantage. Bublik broke his opponent’s serve once more to beat him 6-2, 6-3 when he served to stay in the match at 5-3. He has now won 11 straight games and has advanced to the semifinals of a competition eight times this year.
Throughout the entire season, Alcaraz has been the better player, but Aliassime’s Auger campaign has suddenly acquired momentum. Since the Canadian is performing better than the other player right now, he will prevail in this encounter. Meanwhile, Alcaraz’s ground covering ability can create problems for the opponent.
