Carlos Alcaraz Latest Injury Update Today, Status, News And Return Date

Carlos Alcaraz is currently suffering from the same stomach ailment as Rafael Nadal did earlier this year. The No. 1 tennis player in the world, Alcaraz, pulled out of his French Open match against Holger Rune on Friday due to visible suffering. The 19-year-old said that rather than risking further stomach damage, he “preferred” to leave the quarterfinal game. He then acknowledged that it was difficult for him to make straightforward shots because of the issue, which he unsettlingly claims to have had in the past.

The No. 1 player in the world told the journalists:

It’s something wrong with the abdominal. Yeah, at the end of the set, it was wrong. It was getting wrong, and yeah, I preferred to retire and see it, and take care of it.”

Alcaraz further stated:

“I cannot stretch. I mean, I couldn’t serve well. I couldn’t hit the forehand well. When I turn the body, I feel it.”

Nadal has experienced similar difficulties this year. The Spaniard was forced to quit prior to the Wimbledon semifinal owing to a clash that also occurred at the US Open. The 22-time major champion just withdrew from the Montreal National Bank Open in order to concentrate on his recuperation. The 36-year-old had yet another problem with his chronic abdominal injury during pre-tournament practise.

Alcaraz had a 57-13 record over the entire year. He became the youngest-ever World No. 1 in the ATP Rankings on September 12. The 19-year-old won five tour-level competitions in 2022, taking home his first two ATP Masters 1000 titles (Miami and Madrid) as well as his first Grand Slam victory at the US Open.

Despite withdrawing, Alcaraz is still in the running to hold the top rank at the end of the year. He has a 1,470-point lead over Stefanos Tsitsipas and a 1,000-point advantage over Rafael Nadal in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings.

The field for the Nitto ATP Finals will now include Taylor Fritz in place of the Spaniard. The American made significant progress in 2022, taking home his maiden Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells.
