The India vs England fifth test match which was cancelled owing to COVID-19 cases has been rescheduled for July 2022 In Edgbaston
Earlier this year, the fifth test match between England and India was called off after the Indian team refrained from stepping out. In the aftermath of a multitude of COVID-19 cases in the Indian ranks, the visitors had shown apprehensions over taking to the pitch citing a lack of adequate resources.
India vs England Fifth Cancelled Test Match To Be Held In July 2022
While the encounter was called off, the series wasn’t declared decided. Despite’s India 2-1 lead in the five match test series, the showdown remained up in the air with only the completion of the final matchup deciding which way the series had swung.
The fifth test match has finally been rescheduled with the ECB confirming that both the sides will be taking on each other next year in July.
“The fifth match of the LV= Insurance Test Series between England Men and India Men has been rescheduled and will now take place in July 2022.
“With India leading the series 2-1, the concluding fifth match will now take place from July 1, 2022, at Edgbaston, following an agreement between the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India,” the statement released by the ECB said.
The fifth match was originally slated to get underway in Old Trafford before Ravi Shashtri and his coaching team were diagnosed COVID positive. Shastri’s book launch was said to be the cause of the hoard of positive cases with COVID norms going for a toss during his public gathering, one which involved the Indian cricket team as well.
