Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will lead the Indian challenge at the Canada Open 2024 badminton tournament, starting Tuesday at the Markin-MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Canada. In Lakshya’s absence, Priyanshu Rajawat, Ayush Shetty, and S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian will represent India in the men’s singles main draw.

Malvika Bansod, ranked 49th in the world and a semi-finalist at the US Open last month, has also withdrawn from the women’s singles main draw. This leaves Tanya Hemanth and Anupama Upadhyaya to spearhead the Indian effort. Without world No. 3 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, Krishna Prasad Garaga and Sai Pratheek K, ranked 43rd in the world, will lead the men’s doubles challenge.

In the women’s doubles, world No. 23 Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are at the forefront. Seeded seventh, Treesa and Gayatri, who reached the quarters at the US Open, have received a first-round bye. In mixed doubles, the Indian pairs of Kona Tarun and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli, and Rohan Kapoor and Gadde Ruthvika Shivani will face each other in the first round.
