After scoring the “golden goal” in extra time to beat Ronaldinho and Brazil in the Olympic quarterfinals, M’Bami cemented his position in Cameroonian footballing history.
Beginning his professional career with Académie Kadji Sport and then moving on to Dynamo Douala in Cameroon, M’Bami joined PSG in 2003 and remained there for three seasons.
After three years in Cameroon, he played for the French club Olympique de Marseille, which was among the many who have paid respect to the player. Former teammates and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were among the many people in the soccer world to pay tribute.

M’bami, who was born in Yaoundé, began his professional career with Dynamo Douala but was soon snapped up by teams from abroad. It was in the summer of 2000 that M’bami first joined Sedan. M’bami played ten games in his first season in Division 1, and he helped his team finish fifth. His swift ascension to squad regular status saw him play in 60 games over the course of the next two years.
After M’Bami’s agent, Willie McKay, cut off negotiations with Wolverhampton Wanderers, the team was demoted to Ligue 2 in 2003 and M’Bami signed a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain for €5 million. M’bami and Lorik Cana, another promising defensive midfielder, were teammates during M’bami’s debut season with Paris Saint-Germain.
They contributed greatly to Paris Saint-successful Germain’s season, in which the team finished second in Ligue 1 and won the Coupe de France despite having a very inexperienced roster. M’bami’s injury hampered the team’s performance throughout the 2004-05 season. M’Bami was a key contributor to Paris Saint-2005–06 Germain’s Coupe de France victory and the club’s ninth-place league finish.
