Prediction
After a first-round bye, World No. 8 Cameron Norrie will square off against Japanese wildcard Kaichi Uchida in the second round of the 2022 Korea Open.
Norrie started the season on a four-match losing streak. He quickly turned it around by winning the Delray Beach Open and reaching the final of the Mexican Open the following week.
The Challenger and ITF circuits are where Kaichi Uchida primarily participates. He won the Oeiras Challenger in June, which was his best performance so far this year. His most recent ATP event was the Los Cabos Open, where he was defeated by Brandon Nakashima in the opening round.
In the opening round of the Korea Open, Uchida faced up against Hong Seong-chan. He won in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2 to earn his first victory on the ATP tour of the year while Norrie received a second round bye.
With his continuous performance, Norrie has established himself as the best in the men’s game. He has been playing well, with a win-loss record of 45-23 for the year. He should have no trouble getting past a player like Uchida who is inexperienced on the ATP tour.
Rarely does Uchida have the chance to compete against the absolute best in order to develop and test himself. To pull off an unexpected victory in this game, he’ll have to play his best game ever. Given that the British player rarely gives away points that easily, Norrie is simply far too solid to permit that to happen. He’s one of the finest in the game right now at counterpunching and is fantastic at it.
Although Uchida might put up a fight, Norrie should have no trouble moving on to the next round.
