Prediction
On Wednesday, Cameron Norrie and Aslan Karatsev will square off in the second round of the Stockholm Open.
Due to several outstanding performances this season, Norrie rose to the top 10 of the ATP rankings. At Wimbledon and the Western & Southern Open’s last four, he reached his first Grand Slam semifinal. Additionally, he won two matches at the Lyon Open and the Delray Beach Open.
On the other hand, Karatsev won the Sydney International by defeating Andy Murray, which was a great way to start the season. His best successes since then have been two ATP 250 matches and a quarterfinal finish at the Hamburg European Open, although lately he hasn’t had much luck.
The 29-year-old took part in the Firenze Open earlier this year in Florence and made it to the second round before losing to Mikael Ymer 6-1, 6-7(0), 6-1. He faced Lukas Rosol as a qualifier when he first entered the Stockholm Open. The Russian overcame the Czech 6-3, 6-2 to move on to the second round of the competition.
It was important that Aslan Karatsev beat the skilled Lukas Rosol in the opening round, but the difficulty curve is now drastically increasing. After a tremendous run in the middle of the year, Cameron Norrie hasn’t played his best tennis in a while, but he has still managed to defeat some top-10 opponents and is still comfortably inside the top 20. Rosol was a great fit for Karatsev, so Norrie ought to get along well with him.
