CABI Thanks Government of Andhra Pradesh for Honouring Blind Cricketers with Cash Awards

The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for disbursing the long-awaited 2023 sanctioned cash awards to six exceptional blind cricketers who proudly represented India at the IBSA World Games 2023

For the first time in history, Cricket for the Blind was included in the prestigious International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games, held in Birmingham. The Indian contingent made the nation proud, with the Men’s team securing a Silver medal and the Women’s team clinching Gold, defeating Australia by 9 wickets at the iconic Edgbaston Stadium.

Among the celebrated athletes, six players from Andhra Pradesh were integral to this historic achievement. Each has now been recognized by the state with the following cash awards:

  • Women Cricketers (₹10 lakhs each):
    • Satyavathi Magupalli
    • Ravanni Valasanaini
    • Sandhya Killaka
  • Men Cricketers (₹7 lakhs each):
    • Illuri Ajay Kumar Reddy
    • Venkateshwara Rao Dunna
    • Durga Rao Tompaki

While the announcement of these awards had been made earlier, the disbursement was delayed due to the transition in state government. We are delighted that the commitment has now been fulfilled, especially as it coincides with National Sports Day, making the moment even more special for our athletes. The Cricket Association for the Blind in Andhra Pradesh, in coordination with the state government, played a pivotal role in ensuring the players received their due recognition. These awards not only provide crucial financial support but also serve as a morale booster for our athletes, encouraging them to reach greater heights.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Chairman of CABI, said:

“These honours are more than cash awards—they ignite dreams, inspire cricketers, and strengthen the movement of Cricket for the Blind across India.”

CABI also acknowledges the continuous support extended by various state governments and the Central Government over the past 15 years. Their encouragement and recognition have been instrumental in promoting Cricket for the Blind and in fostering inclusive sporting opportunities across the nation.
