BYJU’S Qatar connections date back years, when the firm raised $150 million from Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), in 2019.

While the exact amount of the sponsorship is yet to be disclosed, the four-year cycle before the 2018 tournament was estimated to have earned FIFA $1.45 billion, lower than the $1.62 billion in sponsorships that were closed in the four-year cycle before the 2014 competition.

FIFA believes that it will achieve its target of $1.696 billion in revenue for the 2022 World Cup with it claiming it has already met 80% of its revenue goals. 5 sponsor brands participated in the main category at the World Cup Russia 2018, with an estimated sponsorship cost of 8–20 million Euros (9–23 million USD) with BYJU’s estimated to pay in the region of $20-25 million.

When BYJU’s became the Indian cricket team sponsor in 2019 taking over from Oppo, it paid Rs 4.61 crore per bilateral match and Rs 1.51 crore per match in an ICC event. Earlier this year, they agreed to stay on as sponsors until the 2023 ODI World Cup with a 10 percent bump on the fees they were already paying.
