Kidambi Srikanth defeated Chinese shuttler Lu Guangzu on Thursday to move to the quarter-final of the BWF World Championships 2021 in Huelva, Spain
The former world number one won the match in straight games (21-10, 21-15), in a match that was largely one-sided, and not a first time for the him even at the BWF World Championships.
Srikanth grabbed a commanding lead in the first game, which saw the Indian score seven points in a row. Guangzu fought back in the second game, which was a close call between the two, with Srikanth claiming a late lead after the midway point. Srikanth had previously defeated Spain’s Pablo Abian and China’s LI Shi Feng. This was his third win in a row.
HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen will also be competing for a quarter-final berth. Sen will compete against Guatemalan shuttler Kevin Cordón, while Prannoy will face Denamrk’s Rasmus Gemke.
