From May 14 to 21, Suzhou will host the world mixed team championships, the BWF Sudirman Cup, featuring the top badminton players in the world. 2023 Sudirman Cup schedule, date, venue, format, & participating teams
Given that they have won 12 of the previous 17 tournaments and have appeared in every final since 1995, the hosts China are the clear favorites in Group A. African champions Egypt are not expected to make a big splash in the group, leaving Denmark, who has Olympic and world champion Viktor Axelsen among their ranks, and Singapore, who is led by Axelsen’s predecessor as world champion Loh Kean Yew, to compete for the second quarterfinal slot.
Group C, which contains Australia, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, and India, is thought to be the “Group of Death” in Suzhou. Half of India’s team won the Thomas Cup, the men’s team world championship, last year, so they will be confident about their chances. In order to mount the Indian challenge, shuttlers like PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty will work together. Japan is the side with the highest seed in Group D, but they have strangely left out former world number one Momota Kento from the squad.
