Team India are drawn in Group C, alongside Commonwealth Games champions Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, and Australia. The tournament will take place from 14-21 May, 2023 in China.
BWF Sudirman Cup
The Sudirman Cup is an international mixed team badminton competition, which takes place biennially. Every year the competition features five matches – men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. This year’s Sudirman Cup 2023 will be the 18th edition of the tournament so far. All the matches are set to take place at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre.
BWF Sudirman Cup 2023 Indian team preview
The Indian squad for the BWF Sudirman Cup 2023 includes players like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty. The trio are all reigning Commonwealth Games champions. Besides them are the fast-rising women’s doubles pair Gayatri Gopichand-Treesa Jolly. These players are expected to carry India’s challenge in the upcoming competition in Suzhou.
Team India qualified for the Sudirman Cup 2023 following a bronze medal at last month’s Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. Malaysia, who are placed in the same group as are a familiar opponent for India. The two sides also clashed in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships group stage. India emerged triumphant in that match winning 4-1.
So far, the Indian badminton team’s best results in the Sudirman Cup came in 2011 and 2017 editions. Team India reached the quarter-finals in both of those editions. Meanwhile, in the last edition, India were got knocked out in the group stages after losing against China and Thailand.

Team China are the defending champions this year, after winning their 12th title back in the 2021 edition in Finland. They are placed in Group A alongside European champions Denmark, fellow Asians Singapore, and Egypt.
Meanwhile last year’s runners-up Japan are in Group D alongside four-time champions South Korea. Third seeds Indonesia, who won the inaugural edition of the tournament back in 1989, will face Thailand in Group B.
